Quarantine Eats: What We Eatin’ Tonight?!?!

Quarantine Eats: What We Eatin’ Tonight?!?!

COVID19 has definitely been something serious! But the big question I have is “what we eatin’ tonight?!”

Over the past few weeks, we have been in quarantine. What is quarantine you ask? .Well, pretty much we’re not suppose to leave our houses unless important. So, no brunch dates, no parties (with over 10 people), no going to the mall or movies. Literally, nothing. I mean, you can still make groceries (while practicing social distancing) and ordering takeout. Being a foodie, means I want, no NEED to try new food spots and I couldn’t let being in quarantine stop me.

For the past few weeks, I started “Take out Fridays” on my instagram. This highlights a new or one of favorite restaurants doing takeout. Yes, this is a very trying time for all business and many food business are struggling to stay afloat. What better way to support than some delicious food and showing my gratitude for all the hard workers out there.

TAKE OUT: Quarantine Edition

Mike’s Chicken

Well well well, what do we have here? Some finger licking’ good chicken, is what we have here. Y’all, I cannot lie to you, when I say this was some of the best chicken I’ve had in Dallas thus far. It was too good and it was takeout.

I first heard about this restaurant on a fellow foodie’s page. He raved about how good the chicken was. Fast forward to now, I did a little Yelp investigation and I was pretty impressed with the reviews and rating. When I initially called to place my order, the phone was busy. I thought, “Maybe, their really packed with an overflow of orders.” I could have hopped in the car and pulled up on them, but I didn’t want to. I was craving chicken, but not that bad.

So finally, I got in touch with them a few days later to order. Mind you, I could have very well drove over there and ordered in person, but COVID 19 had yah girl paranoid. LOL. So anyway, they answer the phone, and baby we were in business!!!

I got the two piece dark spicy, a side of fries, Mac and cheese, and a roll. Heaven must have known I was calling that day, because this was the best call I could have made. Shoutout to Mike’s Chicken!

Howard Wangs

You know I’m always down for Chinese Take out!

Howard Wangs was a pleasant surprise. One of my friends told me I should try them so I said why not. Sterling and I usually go to Ming Place for all our Chinese food needs. However, this night was different. Disclaimer: I really wasn't a fan of what I ordered at HW. It wasn't nasty, but I should have stuck with my first mind and gotten orange chicken and shrimp fried rice.

Nonetheless, the experience was okay. Mind you, I ordered at 7:45 pm. And I was informed that it would be at least an hour wait, because they were so backed up. But I didn't mind, I was just going to roll with the punches.

The hour passes and I get a little worried, just as my Virgo senses start tingling, I get a call. And it’s them with my food :) I’m a happy camper now.

First thoughts of unboxing my meal. Where’s the rest of it? Part of me really thought I was going to have more food for the price I paid, but whatever, I’m hungry. So I dive in. The shrimps and scallops were really good. I was a little indifferent about the BBD chicken they added. I guess that should have been a red flag when I saw it on the menu, and the brown rice was nothing special. Dang it, why must I be so cheap at times. I definitely should have gotten the shrimp fried rice for a little extra.

This meal was horrible but it wasn't amazing either. I think the dine in experience may hype up this restaurant a little more. This was the Wang’s Splendor which includes chicken, beef, BBQ pork, shrimp, scallops, and fish fillet with chef’s choice vegetables in soy garlic sauce.

Gloria’s Latin Cuisine

My good friend Gloria! This restaurant has always been my go to margarita spot in Dallas, but tonight I’m trying something new. I only ordered food from Gloria’s two times before and I’ve always gotten something different. The first time I went, I was not impressed with their food. I soon realized that I was only a fan of their margaritas. But then I tried them again, and I got a burrito. Y’all thing thing was huge and filled with everything I love. So I said, “Why not order from them again.”

On Cinco De Mayo, the streets were filled with people trying to get their taco and margarita fix. I was scrolling through my Instagram, trying to find where I wanted to eat that day. I came across Glorias. Not many peoples’ first choice for Cinco De Mayo, but I wanted to be different.

This was the first weekend that Dallas had opened up some of their restaurants (only 25% occupancy). I was very interested to know how the whole system was working. I called in my order and about 45 minutes later, my food was ready.

When I first walked into the restaurant, there was tape marking places on the ground for people to stand. Everyone had on a mask, and the workers look a little overwhelmed, tbh. There were two lines off to the side. One for pickup orders, and the other for uber eats and what not. I was the first person in my line. The process went very smoothly (i’m super happy I ordered over the phone). I got my food and my mango margarita, of course, and I was out the door.

Gloria’s handled their business that day! I must say they were on it 100%
